Pete Forsyth profile

Pete Forsyth has worked in media since 1991, moving from local newspapers in Massachusetts and Oregon to the American City Business Journals. In 2001 he helped launch the Portland Tribune, a rare startup newspaper in an era when more newspapers are shutting down than starting up. His experience ranges from writing and editing to graphic design, information systems architecture, and advertising sales.

Pete has also worked as a communications consultant for non-profit and policy research organizations. Specialties include placing stories in both traditional and new media sources, and using social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to develop a robust network and build the brand of an organization.

As a volunteer, Pete has worked to develop a strong sense of community and shared purpose among Wikipedia editors in Oregon, and has led the writing and editing of many high-quality encyclopedia articles. He has also directed that group’s attention outside the Wikipedia site, helping to end the State of Oregon’s claim of copyright over the laws of that state, and developing a group blog to explain our work to the broader public. Pete is engaged with politics on the local, statewide, and national level, and has managed statewide and countywide political campaigns.
